Breakup Song

January23

We used to talk till we’d fall asleep,

Laughing at nothing at all.

Now, seeing your name on my screen,

Feels like hitting a wall.

We were writing our future,

In the edges of the days,

But somewhere between the moments,

We stopped turning the page.

So I’m letting you go, even though it hurts tonight,

I’m learning how to breathe without you by my side.

We were good for a moment before it faded with time,

I’ll keep the best of us and leave the rest behind.

I see you in the halls,

Yet we look straight ahead.

Like strangers in the walls,

Holding on by a thread.

I don’t hate you, I promise,

Just needed something new.

Some space to find the parts of me,

That got lost in pursuit of you.

So I’m letting you go, even though it hurts tonight,

I’m learning how to breathe without you by my side.

We were good for a moment before it faded with time,

I’ll keep the best of us and leave the rest behind.

First Date Song

January23

Lockers slam, last bell ringing loud

Your laugh cuts through the hallway crowd.

Fixing my sleeve, trying to play it cool,

Heart’s skipping beats like it’s breaking rules.

Every step feels brand new tonight,

Like the world feels so right.

It’s just a first date, nothing too deep,

Yet, I don’t remember how to blink or breathe.

Music low, hands almost meet,

Every moment’s stuck on repeat

If this is all that it turns out to be,

I’ll still smile when I think

Of what was of you and me.

Ice cream melting with time flying past,

Making jokes that probably won’t last.

Streetlights glowing like they know our names,

While changing the ordinary into something brave.

I’m not sure what tomorrow will say,

Or if this feeling will truly stay,

When I’m here,

The moment never settles with you, my dear.

It’s just a first date, nothing too deep,

Yet, I don’t remember how to blink or breathe.

Music low, hands almost meet,

Every moment’s stuck on repeat

If this is all that it turns out to be,

I’ll still smile when I think

Of what was of you and me.

Band

January15

In band, I play percussion. My favorite percussion instruments are anything auxiliary, like tambourine, triangle, and crash and suspended cymbals. My least favorite percussion instrument is anything pitched. I especially hate mallet percussion and chimes. My favorite song we’re going to be playing this semester is called Uproar. It’s a mixed meter piece, meaning it switches between 3/4 and 2/4 time signatures every few measures. Though it’s a fairly easy piece to play, because of the audio cues every time it switches to 2/4 time.

Winter Poem

January15

Wintery fields

Cold and barren

Creatures yield

To the season.

Plows are wheeled

to prepare the frozen

ground for the next yield.

On the cold and barren

wintery fields.

Limerick

January13

There was once a cat

that was just so fat.

He ate all day

did nothing but play

and wore many a funny hat.

Winter Haiku

Cold and barren land

Hidden away in their homes

Vying for their warmth

My Cats

January9

At my house, I have 2 cats. Their names are Jupi and Mittens. Mittens is very old and will be turning 13 this May. Jupi, however, is much younger. She will be turning 5 this April. Jupi is much more playful than Mittens, and loves to run around with anything she can get ahold of. But Mittens prefers to lie around all day and sleep on my bed while I’m away. They don’t get along the greatest, but they have moments where they do. Both of them love to sit on my windowsill when the blinds are open, then sleep on my bed.

Acrostic Poem

January8

Knowing lots of things

About lots of different things.

Telling all my friends

I know lots of things.

Everyone should know about them.
